vtiger CRM documentations

There seems to be greater interests in a vtiger publication that expands the existing user and administration manual by installation instructions, FAQ and other useful hints and tricks. While this has been done already for the German community (see previouse post) – and has been a best seller for many weeks – a new English book is in preparation. It should be ready to the v5.0.3. release date. Stay tuned.

There is now the vtigerCRM v5.0.1. available. Most of the changes are bug fixes. But Skype has been integrated too. The manuals have been updated to cover the changes.

Yesterday the official GA release has been published. With this release vtiger CRM is setting new standards not only for the Open Source CRM community. Within a couple of days we will release a proper documentation for it. Stay tuned.

Since the RC release there have been many changes to the code and to the user interface. For instance, the calendar functions have been improved significantly. We will include these changes into the manual but since vtiger is always good for surprises, we will hold it up until the GA relase has been published.

The new possibilities for role based security are the most important but also the most difficult to understand improvements of the v5.0 vtiger CRM release. In order to provide an easy to handle guideline for the CRM system administrators we decided to add settings examples to the manual. At the vtiger forum one of the examples we developed is already posted.

The RC release works great and came with several UI improvements. That will require that we make some new screenshots and change the descriptions. What troubles most are the security functions. The test of these functions is very time consuming and so far we are not sure that we got it right. In any case we are targeting the GA release for the publication of a manual draft version. Stay tuned.

Since the German documentation depends on the German language files we have started to host a German vtiger CRM demo site at https://vtigercrm5x.at.crm-now.de. This also includes a download link for the latest German language files. We will update it frequently or whenever a new version comes out.

The Beta 2 release brought a lot of improvements especially in the administration user interface. We will need some time to test these functions and to figure out how it works. But there is still time before the GA release comes out. So we will include these and other improvments into the documentations.

The first draft of the new manual has been drafted. It is to early to publish because we are still in the Beta phase of the software. The final software release will have some changes we would like to include before publishing. In any case we will try to get the new manual out close to the GA software release date.
